Master Lawler

Mr. Lawler (or “Sir Lawler” as he’s usually called in the studio) has been teaching for over 30 years. In that time he has promoted 934 Black Belts, 172 2nd degree Black Belts, 35 3rd degree Black Belts in Tae Kwon Do. This is a process that takes 3 1/2 to 4 years. He enjoys the mentoring that he can provide and is proud of the achievements of his students. In fact, he has promoted several second generation black belts – the kids of black belts he has brought through his system. He teaches using a philosophy of self-control, respect and goal-setting.

On a personal note, Mr. Lawler has three children of his own, all of them Black Belts in Tae Kwon Do, and five grandchildren. He aims to provide a family atmosphere that is fun, safe and that presents martial arts in an easy to learn format.

Mr. Lawler is a 7th degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do as well as a Black Belt in Hapkido. Mr. Lawler trained with Marty Mackowski, a renowned teacher in the San Francisco Peninsula. On the Tae Kwon Do side, his lineage includes the Grandmaster Ki Whang Kim, who was a 10th Dan Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and studied several other martial arts including Shudokan Karate in Japan, Kenpo and Shaolin Kung Fu in China.

In addition to Tae Kwon Do, Mr. Lawler is a Black Belt in Hapkido, where he has studied under Jino Kang, who is a 7th Dan Master Instructor of the USA Headquarters for the International Hapkido Federation, in San Francisco.
